Environmental Assessment (EA)
A NEPA document that shows the evidence used to determine whether to prepare an EIS or FONSI, aid an agency's compliance with NEPA when no EIS is needed and facilitate preparation of an EIS when one is necessary.
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
A detailed written statement required by NEPA for major Federal actions significantly affecting the quality of the human environment.  The statement includes discussion of the environmental impact of the proposed action and all reasonable alternatives.
