Date: April 3, 2009
Subject: Travel Management Plan – Public Meeting
Contact: Mary Scholz, Public Affairs, 509-486-2186

The Tonasket Ranger District is seeking comments on the proposed action for Motorized Travel Management. An open house to discuss this is planned for Tuesday April 14 th at the Tonasket District office, beginning at 3:00 p.m. and continuing until 6:00 p.m.

“This informal meeting will provide the public an opportunity to look at maps, ask questions and provide comments”, stated Mark Morris, District Ranger. “The proposed action is a starting point – it is not a decision. This open house will be an opportunity to gather additional input and recommendations”.

Maps showing specific roads and trails that would be open to motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and four-wheel-drive vehicles under the proposed plan will be displayed. Tonasket District Resource Specialists will be on hand to answer questions and take comments.

The Forest will utilize the public comments received to develop alternatives to the Proposed Action. A draft Environmental Impact Statement is expected to be available for public review by this coming winter, and a final EIS completed in the summer of 2010. Public comments need to be submitted by May 7, 2009.

Travel management planning documents are posted on the internet at www.fs.fed.us/r6/okawen/travel-management.
