Washington Bill Addresses Environmental Impacts of ORV Use
Feb 1, 2008

SB6901 would make several changes to Washington State law aimed at reducing the environmental impacts of ORV use.

SB6901 was introduced in the Washington State Senate on February 1, 2008. It aims to address the environmental impacts of ORV use. Changes to state law would include:

1. Require identification plates to be issued along with ORV permits. The identification plates would be the same size as automobile license plates and be required to be displayed on all ORVs.

2. Require a drivers license to operate an ORV on or across a road.

3. Protect landowners from liability from injuries sustained by persons operating an ORV on their land without permission.

4. Require projects submitted by certain state agencies that address environmental damage by ORV use to be given priority over ORV facility projects when distributing ORV grants.

5. Make it a misdemeanor, rather than a traffic infraction, to cause environmental damage on lands not owned by the operator of an ORV.

6. Allow law enforcement to sieze an ORV when they have probable cause to believe it was used to cause environmental damage on lands not owned by the operator of the ORV.
