The Inyo National Forest Announces the Release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Motorized Travel Management
After four years of work and over 25 public meetings and workshops, the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Inyo National Forest Motorized Travel Management Project, formerly known as Route Designation, is now available for a 60-day public review and comment period.
The Motorized Travel Management Project on the Inyo National Forest is part of a national effort to define transportation systems on each national forest in the country. The goal is to develop a sustainable system of routes that provide an array of opportunities for access and recreation on national forest lands, as well as protection of various resources by curtailing motorized cross-country travel.
The DEIS displays an analysis of six different alternatives, each of which would designate a distinct system of motorized routes. DEIS maps show the routes that are added to the transportation system for each alternative, and what type of vehicles are allowed on each route.
Compact discs containing the DEIS and maps are available by sending a request to comments-pacificsouthwest-inyo@fs.fed.uswww.fs.fed.us/r5/inyocomments-pacificsouthwest-inyo@fs.fed.us 02/20/09 - Inyo NF Travel Management drop-in session - Bishop 02/19/09 - Inyo NF Travel Management meeting - Dyer 02/18/09 - Inyo NF Travel Management drop-in session - Lone Pine 02/17/09 - Inyo NF Travel Management drop-in session - Mammoth Lakes 02/12/09 - Inyo NF Travel Management meeting - Bishop Inyo National Forest Travel Management Route Designation Process [details] The Inyo National Forest Announces the Release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Motorized Travel Management - USFS press release 1/23/09 [details] Inyo National Forest |
