The Inyo National Forest to Host Public Drop-in Session for the Motorized Travel Management Draft Environmental Impact Statement

Bishop, CA (March 1, 2009)...After four years of work and over 30 public meetings and workshops, the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Inyo National Forest Motorized Travel Management Project is now available for public review and comment.  The 60-day comment period ends March 31st.

Five public meetings and three drop-in sessions have been held since the DEIS was released for comment on January 31st.  An additional drop-in session has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Inyo National Forest Supervisors Office, 351 Pacu Lane in Bishop.  During the drop-in session, participants will have are an opportunity to talk one-on-one with a Travel Management specialist before the end of the comment period.

The DEIS and maps are available on the Inyo National Forest website at www.fs.fed.us/r5/inyo/projects/ohvroute5.shtml.  Compact discs containing the DEIS and maps are available by sending a request to comments-pacificsouthwest-inyo@fs.fed.uscomments-pacificsouthwest-inyo@fs.fed.us.   Please include "Travel Management Comments" in the subject line.  Electronic comments must be submitted in a format such as email message, plain text (.txt), rich text format (.rtf), or Word (.doc).

A Final Environmental Impact Statement and decision by Forest Supervisor Jim Upchurch are expected this summer, with a Motor Vehicle Use Map scheduled for release by the end of 2009.
