U.S. Forest Service Hosts Two Public Meetings To Summarize Public Comments for Lake Isabella

Porterville, CA., April 8, 2009...The Sequoia National Forest will host two public meetings to focus on public comments received regarding the management of Lake Isabella, as part of the Motorized Vehicle Travel Management Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) planning effort.

The original 60-day comment period ended on March 31, 2009.  Forest Supervisor Tina Terrell received many requests for additional time to review the documents so the comment period had been extended through April 20th.  Comments will still be accepted by email at comments-pacificsouthwest-sequoia@fs.fed.us, or by mail to Chris Sanders, Travel Management, Sequoia National Forest, 1839 South Newcomb Street, Porterville, CA  93257, or by facsimile to (559) 781.4744.

The upcoming meetings scheduled for later this month will be held after the comment period closes on April 20th. During the meetings the Forest Service
will not receive written public comments. The comment period will have ended.

The meeting objectives are to:

Summarize what the Forest Service has heard during all of the public meetings specific to Lake Isabella;
Clarify information from the 1979 Isabella Lake Master Plan developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers;
Explain the 2005 Travel Management Rule; and
Describe the process for the development of a Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision.

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

East Bakersfield Veterans Hall
