Dear Interested Parties:

The Sierra National Forest Is seeking comment on the Sierra National Forest Motorized Travel Management Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The DEIS examines five alternatives as part of the Travel Management planning process. The DEIS discloses environmental impacts associated with a no action alternative and four additional action alternatives developed in response to issues raised by the public. This undertaking is part of a national effort to designate transportation systems on each national forest in the country. The goal is to develop a sustainable system of roads, trails and areas that provide an array of opportunities for access and recreation on the national forests, as well as protection of natural, cultural and other resources.

We recommend that you first start by printing the User Guides to the DEIS and Maps. The user guides will help you navigate through the document and maps. In the column to the left you will find the User Guide to the DEIS at the top of the table. Scroll down to the bottom of the table to locate the User Guide to the maps.

The comment period begins the day after the Notice of Availability (NOA) for this project is published in the Federal Register. The NOA is anticipated to be published Friday, May 1, 2009. The comment period will end June 15, 2009.

While comments may be submitted anytime during the analysis process, only those who submit timely comments or otherwise express interest during the comment period will have eligibility to appeal the subsequent decision under 36 CFR 215.
