Comment Period Extended for Rico-West Dolores Travel Management Plan
Due to problems with the U.S. Forest Service website that caused delays in the release of preliminary Rico-West Dolores Travel Management Plan Environmental Assessment (EA), the Dolores Public Lands Office has extended the public comment period deadline to close of business on Friday, May 29, 2009.
This EA proposes to designate routes open to summer motor-vehicle use on Forest Service lands near Rico and Dunton. Forest Service lands covered in the plan include Bear Creek, Taylor Mesa, Roaring Fork, federal lands surrounding Rico, Black Mesa, and Stoner Mesa areas. In addition to designating routes for summer motor-vehicle use, the plan also addresses other issues, such as dispersed camping and day-use parking. The plan does not address or change access related to winter recreational use of these areas.
A copy of the Preliminary EA is now available for public review upon request by calling the Dolores Public Lands Office (970-882-7296). The EA is also available on the Forest website at http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/sanjuan/projects/projects.shtml.
Comments can be mailed to Steven K. Beverlin, Manager, Dolores Public Lands Office, 29211 Hwy. 184, Dolores, CO 81323, or faxed to Attn: Penny Wu (970) 882-6841, or emailed to : comments-rocky-mountain-san-juan-mancos-dolores@fs.fed.us
