Draft Little Sahara Recreation Area Business Plan Adds Day-Pass Proposal
Dec 31, 2009

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Fillmore Field Office is currently accepting written public input on proposals included in the Draft Little Sahara Recreation Area Business Plan that would modify the Special Recreation Permit fee schedule.

http://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/info/newsroom/2009/december/draft_little_sahara.htmlhttp://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/fo/fillmore.html or by request from the BLM Fillmore Field Office.  Special Recreation Permit fees at LSRA have historically been raised every three to four years to keep pace with rising operational costs; however, fees have not been raised since 2003.  During the last five years, the costs of operating LSRA have exceeded permit revenues by an average of over $293,000 a year.  As a result, the Fillmore Field Office must currently use appropriated federal funding to make up this shortfall of LSRA operating costs.

Providing opportunities for public input into proposed changes in recreation fees on the public lands is required by the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act.  After considering public input on the proposals included in the Draft Little Sahara Recreation Area Business Plan, the Fillmore Field Office will present the proposed changes in recreation fees to the BLM Utah Recreation Resource Advisory Council.  The public will also be invited to provide the BLM Utah Recreation Resource Advisory Council with input on these proposals at their next meeting, which will be publicized via a BLM News Release and a notice in the Federal Register.  No changes to recreation fees at the Little Sahara Recreation Area will be implemented until the BLM has considered input from both the public-at-large and the BLM Utah Recreation Resource Advisory Council.

The comment period for the Draft Little Sahara Recreation Area Business Plan is now open until January 19th.  Comments must be submitted in writing via mail, fax or e-mail no later than January 19, 2010.
