Allegheny National Forest to Hold Open Houses on Motor Vehicle Use Map

Forest Supervisor Leanne Marten will hold three Open Houses on Monday, April 28, to allow the public an opportunity to review the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for the Allegheny National Forest (NF) prior to printing the map.  The MVUM will show roads and motorized trails (except snowmobile trails) per direction of the Travel Management Rule of 2005.  A DRAFT copy of the Allegheny NF map will be available at each Open House.  Forest Service employees will be available to answer questions and share information on the process and intent of the map.

The Open Houses are at staggered times so interested people can attend either before or after work hours.  The Open Houses are Monday, April 28, at the following offices and times:

        Bradford Ranger District Office, 7:00 a.m. & 12:00 p.m., State Route 59 and 321 in Marshburg;

        Marienville Ranger District Office, 1:00 & 6:00 p.m., State Route 66 in Marienville; and

        Supervisor's Office, 8:30 a.m. & 4:15 p.m., 222 Liberty Street in Warren.

Each forest is producing a MVUM as part of the Travel Management Rule which required all national forests to show each road and trail open to motor vehicle use, class of vehicle, and season of use.   The MVUM does NOT show snowmobile routes.  Snowmobile trails were specifically exempted in the national Travel Management Rule process.

The MVUM will be updated annually to show recent travel decisions made through implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and public involvement.  The MVUM for the Allegheny NF is expected to be printed and available for forest visitors by the end of July 2008.  Questions may be addressed to Kathy Mohney at 814/728-6298.
