| | WOHVA Seeks Legislative Rapid Response Team Volunteers
Feb 1, 2008WOHVA is seeking volunteers for a Legislative Rapid Response Team, who would be willing and able to travel to Olympia on as little as 24 hours notice when an ORV presence is needed.The WA OHV Alliance, representing all 4WD, ATV and Off Highway Motorcycle (OHM) users in WA State held one of the most successful OHV political rallies ever seen in Olympia during the 2007 session. These types of events require a lot of funds, planning, obtaining the required permits, insurance, etc.
This year the WOHVA Board of Directors (BoD) looked at the known OHV related issues for this short legislative session and decided that a huge rally is most likely not going to be necessary during the 2008 legislative session. However, significant OHV issues can arise at any time during a legislative session so it is wise to remember the old quote, from Wiley Post if I remember correctly, which states, "No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the legislature is in session."
Therefore, the WOHVA BoD has decided to create a volunteer Legislative Rapid Response Team for use this year if needed. WOHVA has requested CLOUT to compile a list of people (name, phone & email) for those who could be in Olympia if given 24 hours prior notice that they are needed.
The LRRT volunteers will only be activated if there is a dire need to display an OHV user presence in Olympia due to legislation in process. Please be certain that you have at least an 80% chance of being able to do this with just 24 hours notice before you send us your name and a phone number where we can reach you during the day. WOHVA and CLOUT do not distribute your contact information to anyone else.
The WOHVA BoD has already purchased 200 very distinctive, bright T-shirts that will be issued without charge to the LRRT volunteers that show up if activated. Volunteers will not need to make public presentations, however contact with your personal legislator(s) will be encouraged. Your primary function will be to establish a very visible OHV user presence when and where needed that day in Olympia.
